Learn to write chords and melody like the pros.

There has never been a music book like this. Hooktheory I is a smart, fun, skill-building journey that concretely teaches you how to craft melodies and chord progressions like professional musicians and gain a deep understanding and intuition for how music works. Validated by 16,435 musicians like you, Hooktheory I is the best selling how-to music book for instrumentalists, songwriters, producers, and DJs around the world for a reason. This how-to journey on melody and chord creation is fun to read, easy to understand, and teaches you practical knowledge that will take your chords and melodies to the next level. It contains 41 interactive exercises and 94 audiovisual examples from artists like: Avicii, Beyonce, Journey, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, and The Beatles, that make it easy to see the tactics these successful artists use.Reading Hooktheory I doesn’t require any previous music knowledge or the ability to read music. On average, it takes about five hours to read (but more to fully absorb) so it isnt a huge time commitment. Dedicate only a few hours to reading this book and gain a lifetime of skills that will give your music that professional edge.We wrote this book because we were tired of all of the “songwriting” websites / books that talk vaguely about “finding your inspiration”, or rhyming lyrics, or some other soft, non-actionable component of creating music. With Hooktheory I, we created an approachable, intuitive resource that concretely answers the hard questions: Why do certain chords fit together easily, and others not so easily? How can I get from this chord to that chord? How can I create a great melody? Its a book that will make you say “ah ha!” many times over.Added melody to examples in section 5.2 and 5.3, improved discussion of weak and strong beats in 3.2, fixed some typos, and minor copy edits.

"Media not found" error. Apparently this is abandonware. Numerous complaints about this issue since 2018 (4 years!) and still, not fixed. Google should remove it from the store.

The HookTheory apps are great it's unfortunate support don't seem to be getting back to peoples problems. I have found an app that will play the examples: search for xplayer in the Play Store.

Excellent

As another review mentioned the media examples are not loading - Hooktheory where are you? There is a review from August mentioning this same problem. You have time to promote a Black Friday sale but not to fix your app???

Gabriel

All the examples in this book give me a 'media not found' Error. I've tried everything i can think of to fix this (no success). Also contacted support and have not gotten a response in over a week. I'm on a pixel 4a. The idea behind this book is good, but the creators currently don't seem to care about it.

Ite not a game just a book. Very basic stuff nothing really insightful.

This app is a total con. All of the material in this app equates to only a few pages in a regular theory book you could buy for the same price. With a $20 price tag it's a compete scam. You can easily acquire the info in this app online for free with a few simple google searches. I'm embarrassed I bought this.

Wow... This is exactly what I've been looking for in terms of practical application of music theory. Best $15 I've spent in a long time.

Fantastic app for beginners. Breaks things down into manageable chunks and has an easy to follow style with plenty of examples. I've also had to deal with customer service and can say that these guys respond quickly and do their best to resolve any issues. If I had one ask it would be to include 'classic' examples from history as well as examples from more modern/mainstream music....regardless, this app was so useful, I've just purchased the sequel...I could definitely see the Hooktheory methodology implemented into schools, where I think it would fit brilliantly and help a lot of people understand/learn music, who might otherwise have never done so....

Very nice app with lots if useful information and examples. Note to the developers: In Section 4.1 a wrong video is linked to the example of the P!ink song.
